Sydney: HRH Tengku Abdullah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah, the Chairman of the Organising Committee for AFC Asian Cup 2015, has said that 16th edition of the continental showcase has the potential to be the best in the tournament’s illustrious history.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the Australia 2015 match schedule and venues, HRH Tengku Abdullah stated that the combination of the country’s legendary passion for sport and the endeavour shown by the organisers and administrators will result in an unforgettable experience for football fans from Australia, Asia and beyond.
“The AFC Asian Cup is the pinnacle for the 47 nations of the AFC and is our most important and prestigious competition,” he said.
“The AFC is working with the Australian Local Organising Committee to put in place every detail to make AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 a huge success.
“Looking at the progress made so far and Australia’s rich sporting culture, I expect this AFC Asian Cup to be better than all previous editions.”
HRH Tengku Abdulla, who is also an AFC Vice President, reiterated that it was important that all stakeholders involved in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup didn’t rest on their laurels and called for a united front from all concerned in order to make the competition the best yet.
“While a lot of work still needs to be done I am confident that the AFC and the Local Organising Committee will work together to ensure all preparations are in place,” he continued.
“The AFC is very impressed with the standard of facilities in Australia and we look forward to seeing the best football Asia has to offer being played out on the pitches.
“The announcement of the five competition venues and the schedule of matches is a significant milestone for any event. I am pleased to be in Australia for this announcement.
“I am sure the AFC Asian Cup 2015 will have a tremendous impact in Australia and help to further grow football.”
