Curitiba: The vast experience of Team Melli head coach Carlos Queiroz is Iran's biggest asset according to Nigeria boss Stephen Keshi, as the Super Eagles meet the three-time Asian champions in their opening Group F match on Monday.
"I think an experienced coach is their biggest weapon, because he's well experienced, he knows the game well," Fars News Agency quoted Keshi, who ended his playing career in Malaysia with Perlis, as saying.
After leading Portugal to consecutive FIFA World Youth Championship titles Queiroz, took helm of the Portuguese seniors before spells in club football with Sporting Portugal, New York/New Jersey Metro Stars and Japan's Nagoya Grampus for his first stint in Asian football.
The Mozambique-born former goalkeeper stayed in Asia and had a stint with the United Arab Emirates before Queiroz qualified South Africa for the 2002 FIFA World Cup but didn't lead the Bafana Bafana at the first World Cup on Asian soil after a fallout with the South African federation led to his resignation.
Queiroz returned to club football in 2002 when he joined Manchester United's coaching staff and following a season managing Spanish giants Real Madrid he was back at Old Trafford where he was assistant manager to the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson for four seasons before returning to the Portuguese national team in 2008.
Queiroz was then back in South Africa, leading Portugal to the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals, hammering DPR Korea 7-0 in the Group Stage, before joining Iran and guiding them to Brazil 2014.
Keshi (pictured), who along with Egypt legend and former Jordan national team manager Mahmoud El Gohary, is one of just two individuals to win the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and a coach, continued:
"For the Iran game we have to be focused. We have to concentrate and do our job. We're not going to take Iran lightly because they're not going to take us lightly. So we have to go out with everything that we have.
"They have a very good coach and I'm sure they also have some quality players. We don't know Iran very well, but we'll see them on Monday."
