Europe Wrap: Kim sets new Bundesliga milestones

Kuala Lumpur: Kim min-jae became the second Korea Republic international after Jeong Woo-yeong to win the Bundesliga title following Bayern Munich’s 35th league triumph. The defender is also the only Korea Republic player to clinch back-to-back titles in Germany.

Pathum Thani: Korea Republic head coach Park Youn-jeong expressed pride in her players despite a 3-0 defeat to DPR Korea in their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ semi-final at the Pathum Thani Stadium on Wednesday.

Pak Il Sim opened the scoring in the 24th minute for DPR Korea with Kang Ryu Mi adding another to leave Park’s side with a mountain to climb before Choe Yon A put the game beyond Korea Republic’s reach in the 84th minute.

Pathum Thani: DPR Korea moved within one match of retaining their title after defeating Korea Republic 3-0 in their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ semi-final at the Pathum Thani Stadium on Wednesday.

Pak Il Sim’s thunderbolt and Kang Ryu Mi’s composed finish in the first half, with Choe Yon A adding the third, sent DPR Korea on their way to a ninth final appearance against six-time champions Japan, who defeated China PR 2-0 in their semi-final.

Seattle: Tottenham Hotspur forward Maika Hamano scored the only goal as Japan ended the United States' 10-game unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory in an international women's friendly in Seattle on Tuesday.

Korea Republic, meanwhile, were overpowered 3-1 by Canada in their FIFA Series tie.

The teams met in the group stage, with DPR Korea cruising to a 5-0 win as they underlined their status as favourites with a perfect run to the last four stage, netting 22 goals and conceding none.

For defender Oh, the match presents an opportunity to show how much Korea Republic have grown since their 5-0 defeat to the defending champions in the group stage while Ri will be aiming to keep her team’s title defence on track. 

The 19-year-old, who plays for UNSW FC in Australia, featured in the defeat to DPR Korea and later helped her side reach the semi-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time win against Thailand in the quarter-finals, coming on as a late substitute for Han Min-seo.

Pathum Thani: Head coach Park Youn-jeong admitted Korea Republic were put through the wringer before securing a 2-1 victory over Thailand in their AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026 quarter-final on Sunday.

The two-time champions netted their winner in the second half of extra time after the match ended in a 1-1 stalemate at the end of regulation time, leaving Park vastly relieved.

Pathim Thani: Korea Republic squeezed into the last four of the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup Thailand 2026™ with a 2-1 win against a spirited Thailand in extra-time in their quarter-final match at the Thammasat Stadium on Sunday.

Park Ju-ha’s 106th minute winner earned Park Youn-jeoun’s side a semi-final meeting with DPR Korea on Wednesday and also booked them a spot at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026.
