Washington: Friday’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Draw revealed the challenges Asia’s finest will face in the expanded global showpiece next summer.

It was a draw which had everything and the Asian teams were understandably excited as they began to lay plans for their respective sides.

Asia's hopefuls discover challengers

Washington: Asia's representatives learnt their FIFA World Cup 2026 challengers following the conclusion of the draw at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on Friday.

The 48 teams were drawn into 12 groups for the global showpiece which will take place in Canada, Mexico and the United States on June 11-July 19, 2026.

Doha: Qatar were left staring at elimination after being forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Syria in their FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 Group A tie at the Khalifa International Stadium on Thursday.

The stalemate gave the hosts their first point, with Syria joining Palestine on four. Tunisia - who play Qatar on Sunday - also have a single point to their name.

Kuala Lumpur: The Final Draw for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ will be held on Friday and it promises to be a spectacular affair.

The expanded 48-team tournament - up from the 32-nation field that competed at the FIFA World Cup 2022 - will be played across the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19 next year.

Al Khor: Palestine snatched a goal deep into stoppage time to defeat Qatar 1-0 in their FIFA Arab Cup 2025 Group A opener on Monday.

Sultan Al Brake’s own goal secured victory for Palestine, who will next play Tunisia - who lost 1-0 to Syria earlier on Monday. Hosts Qatar meet Syria, with both matches to be played on Thursday.

Kuala Lumpur: The cast for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ was decided following the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Sunday.

The seven group winners join Asia's representatives from the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 - DPR Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Korea Republic, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan - at the Finals.

The Finals will be contested on May 7-24, 2026.

With Al Hilal SFC defeating Al Shorta, the win means the UAE side booked their Round of 16 spot with three matches to spare while Qatar's Al Sadd remain mired in the lower half of the standings with two points.
