Colombia's Uribe joins Al Sadd

Doha: Al Sadd SC have signed Colombian international Mateus Uribe on a three-year deal starting from the 2023-24 season. 

The 32-year-old midfielder joins Qatar Stars League side Al Sadd after four seasons with Portugal's FC Porto.

Groups finalised for #AFCU23 Qatar 2024 Qualifiers

Kuala Lumpur: The draw for the AFC U23 Asian Cup™ Qatar 2024 Qualifiers was finalised at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.

The hopefuls were divided into 11 groups – 10 groups of four teams each, with the last group containing three. Qatar, meanwhile, will play in the Qualifiers for exposure with their matches classified as friendlies.

Brazilian Otavio joins Al Sadd

Doha: Al Sadd have signed Brazilian Paulo Otavio on a three-year deal, the Qatar Stars League side have announced. 

Otavio, who will make his debut in the 2023-24 season, joins Al Sadd from Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

Doha: There will be a fresh look to the Qatar squad for their CONCACAF Gold Cup challenge as Carlos Quieroz gets set for his first tournament as head coach.

The Portuguese, who replaced Felix Sanchez as head coach, has two major targets - Qatar's defence of their AFC Asian Cup™ title and qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. 
 
Among those missing from the Qatar squad for the Gold Cup are Captain Hassan Al Haydos, Akram Afif, Karim Boudiaf, Pedro Miguel, Boualem Khoukhi, Abdulaziz Hatem and Saad Al Sheeb in Queiroz's bid to blood new players.

AFC and Aspetar sign MoU to promote oral and dental health for Asian footballers

Doha: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has partnered with Aspetar, a prestigious orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital and one of FIFA and AFC Medical Centres of Excellence, to establish a ground-breaking initiative focused on the oral and dental health of footballers in Asia. 

The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on both education and research programmes aimed towards the safety of players.

West Asia Wrap: Al Arabi clinch Amir Cup; Al Hilal edge Al Wehda to lift King's Cup

Doha: Al Arabi ended a 30-year wait for the Qatar Amir Cup title after stunning Al Sadd SC 3-0 in the final on Friday. 

Al Hilal SFC, meanwhile, edged Al Wehda on penalties to lift the Saudi King's Cup.

Al Duhail cruise to Qatar crown

Doha: Michael Olunga scored four goals as Al Duhail SC emerged champions of the 2022-23 Qatar Stars League with a 5-2 win over Al Shamal on Monday.

In clinching their eighth league title, Al Duhail finished on 51 points, two ahead of Al Arabi.
