Key reforms to youth competitions recommended

Jeddah: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s commitment towards elevating the standards of its top-level competitions, as outlined in its Vision and Mission, marked a significant milestone today after the AFC Competitions Committee recommended measures aimed at further enhancing the Confederation’s youth competitions at its fifth meeting held in Saudi Arabia.

Led by Chairperson Dr Tran Quoc Tuan, the Committee took the opportunity to wish the AFC U23 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ finalists – China PR and Japan – the very best of success ahead of today’s decider at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah and applauded the Saudi Arabian Football Federation for their impeccable hosting capabilities.

Year in Review: AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2025™

Kuala Lumpur: Uzbekistan emerged champions of the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2025™ after defeating Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the final.

It was Uzbekistan's second lift of the trophy, having also emerged champions in 2012.

Kuala Lumpur: The cast for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ was decided following the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Sunday.

The seven group winners join Asia's representatives from the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 - DPR Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Korea Republic, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan - at the Finals.

The Finals will be contested on May 7-24, 2026.

Kuala Lumpur: The cast for the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ was finalised with the conclusion of the Qualifiers on Sunday.

The seven group winners from the Qualifiers joined the nine AFC representatives from the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025 that have already qualified: DPR Korea, Indonesia, Japan, Korea Republic, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, United Arab Emirates and Uzbekistan.

Qualifiers - Group E: Jordan 6-1 Philippines; Australia 3-3 Iraq

Aqaba: Australia survived a fightback from Iraq to advance to the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™, with their thrilling Qualifiers Group E tie ending 3-3 on Sunday.

Australia finished on 10 points, with Iraq two behind. Jordan defeated Philippines 6-1 in the earlier match to end their campaign in third.

Qualifiers - Group D: IR Iran 1-2 India; Chinese Taipei 1-3 Palestine

Ahmedabad: India qualified for the  AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ after a hard-fought 2-1 win against Islamic Republic of Iran in their final Qualifiers Group D tie on Sunday.

The hosts finished level on seven points with Iran but advanced on the head-to-head ratio as they booked a fourth consecutive appearance at the Finals. 

Palestine ended their campaign earlier on Sunday with a 3-1 win against Chinese Taipei.

Qualifiers - Group B: Yemen 4-2 Laos; Kyrgyz Republic 3-0 Cambodia; Guam 0-11 Pakistan; Yemen 4-2 Laos

Bishkek: Yemen sealed progress into the AFC U17 Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2026™ after coming from behind to defeat Laos 4-2 in their Qualifiers Group B tie on Sunday.

Victory meant Yemen topped the group with a perfect 15 points, with Pakistan, Laos and Kyrgyz Republic all six adrift. 

Pakistan defeated Guam 11-0 while Kyrgyz Republic beat Cambodia 3-0.
