Tashkent: Uzbekistan’s campaign at the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024 came to an end after they suffered a 5-3 defeat to Costa Rica in their final Group A match on Friday.

The defeat, their second in the group stage, saw them finishing with a point courtesy of their 3-3 draw against the Netherlands as they finished bottom of the group and thus, eliminated from the competition.

Having also lost to Morocco in their opener, Tajikistan now have to beat Panama in their final group game on Saturday to stand a chance of reaching the Round of 16.

Bukhara: Islamic Republic of Iran sealed their spot in the Round of 16 in style after defeating Guatemala 9-4 in their FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024 Group F tie at the Bukhara Universal Sports Complex on Thursday.

Iran had to reverse a one-goal deficit against a gritty Guatemala, who forced a 3-3 scoreline going into the break before the Central Asian side delivered a sparkling performance in the second half to make it two wins out of two.

Tashkent: Afghanistan played with plenty of heart but eventually had to concede defeat as they fell 2-1 to Argentina in Group C of the FIFA Futsal World Cup Uzbekistan 2024 on Wednesday. 

The tournament debutants stood tall against the 2016 world champions at the Humo Stadium and will play Ukraine on Saturday where a win should take them into the knockout stage.

Tashkent: Uzbekistan’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stage of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2024 suffered a blow after they went down 4-1 to Paraguay at the Humo Arena on Tuesday.

Uzbekistan, who opened their campaign with a 3-3 draw against the Netherlands, will now need to win their final game against Costa Rica to stand a chance of extending their stay in the tournament.

Having allowed Cuba to draw level after leading 3-1, Thailand’s quality saw them dominate the second half to move onto six points and they were assured of their spot in the Round of 16 after Brazil defeated Croatia 8-1 in their tie later on Tuesday.
