Kuala Lumpur: AFC Match Commissioners were put through the paces as they started a seminar in the Malaysian capital on Wednesday to prepare themselves for next year’s competitions.
A total of 142 participants, including 65 Match Commissioner candidates, are taking part in the three-day annual programme.
It is also the first time members of the AFC Futsal Committee are participating in the seminar where the AFC aims to share with the participants lessons in competition organisation.
“I’d like to welcome you to the AFC Match Commissioner Seminar, where some of you are existing and experienced Match Commissioners while others are candidates for the panel of Match Commissioners,” said AFC Deputy General Secretary Windsor John while opening the seminar. “It’s also the first time members of the AFC Futsal Committee are taking part in the seminar.
“There were 859 matches in the year 2013 including qualifiers, centralised and home and away matches and there were the much needed Match Commissioners in every match.”
“We are proud of your performance and mindful of the challenges that you faced at the venue but we are addressing these so that you can do your job and deliver matches at the highest level.
“As you know, next year is a very important year where among other things, we will be introducing the ‘60 Minutes’ campaign to improve game flow, starting new competition the AFC U-22 Championship and celebrating the AFC’s 60th anniversary.
“You are the face of the AFC and you are the ones who protect the integrity of our game. Therefore I’d like to call upon you to conduct your duty professionally and to constantly improve yourselves.”
Media, legal and disciplinary matters, referees, marketing, equipment and TV broadcasting are some of the aspects of competition organising covered during the seminar.
