Ashgabat: An Assessment Visit and Planning Meeting have been held recently in Turkmenistan under the AFC League Development Programme.
The visit aimed to introduce the AFC League Development Programme in Turkmenistan, help implement the National-Level Club Licensing Regulations by 2017 and AFC Club Licensing Regulations by 2018.
The visit also targeted to meet with clubs to determine their issues and challenges and decide on the services they need under the League Development Programme.
Rovshen Kemjayev, Acting General Secretary of the Football Federation of Turkmenistan (FFT), said: "The FFT is glad to be a part of the AFC League Development Programme. We think the services offered under this programme will help in the development of the league and clubs. Initiatives such as the implementation of the Club Licensing Regulations will provide a good structure to the clubs and league.
"The FFT is also keen to implement other development initiatives of AFC such as the Mini Pitch Scheme. The Government has assured full support to FFT for the development of football in Turkmenistan. So, programmes such as the League Development Programme will help us achieve our development goals and objectives."
The clubs were positive on the the implementation of the licensing regulations and most of them have fulfilled the criteria and agreed to complete their undertakings in the matter by the stipulated deadline.
The visit, conducted by AFC Development Officer Yogesh Desai, also identified several areas of needed improvement, such as the lack of marketing and revenue generation through sponsors, which the FFT aims to rectify.
To address the areas of concern discovered during the visit, several follow-up plans have been made, such as holding a Match Organisation Workshop and Club Marketing Workshop as well as assisting the FFT in drafting its strategic plan in the near future.
