AFC Referee Academy conducts first onsite module for Batch 5

Kuala Lumpur: In a bid to equip Asia’s match officials with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel both on and off the field, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) conducted a five-day onsite module for Batch 5 of the AFC Referee Academy in September 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

Taking place between September 25 and 29, the module was attended by 47 referees, both male and female, who underwent extensive training under the guidance of some of the most renowned instructors from across the globe.

Mekkah: Al Kahrabaa of Iraq recorded their first-ever AFC Cup™ win, beating Al Ittihad Al Ahli Aleppo 2-0 in Group B of the 2023/24 edition at King Abdulaziz Sport City Stadium on Tuesday.

Both sides had yet to break their duck going into the game, with Al Ittihad having lost to Al Wehdat 2-0 in Amman and Al Kahrabaa holding out for a goalless draw against Kuwait SC in Basra on Matchday One.

Al Ain: Al Ain moved clear at the top of Group A of the AFC Champions League™ 2023-24 on Tuesday as Alfred Schreuder’s side handed Turkmenistan’s Ahal FC a 4-2 defeat at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.

Erik, Soufiane Rahimi, Kodjo Laba and Kouame Kouadio were all on target for the former champions as the club from the United Arab Emirates backed up their opening win over Pakhtakor with a second successive victory.

Tehran: Neymar’s first goal in Al Hilal SFC colours helped the Saudi club earn a 3-0 away win against Nassaji Mazandaran in Group D of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 at Azadi Stadium on Tuesday.

The two teams had contrasting starts to their 2023/24 continental campaign, with Nassaji’s first-ever match in the competition seeing them defeat Mumbai City 2-0 in Maharashtra, while Al Hilal needed a late Ali Al Bulayhi goal to rescue a point at home against Navbahor.

Riyadh: Al Fayha of Saudi Arabia claimed their first ever win in the AFC Champions League™ after producing a polished performance to beat Uzbekistan’s Pakhtakor FC 2-0 at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium on Tuesday.

In only their second outing in the competition, the 2021/22 King Cup champions were more clinical on the night compared to their Uzbekistan counterparts with a brace from Abdelhamid Sabiri earning them three massive points.
