Japan’s Futoshi Ikeda stars in latest Coaches Circle

Kuala Lumpur: The 11th edition of the Coaches Circle, now available on the-AFC.com, puts the spotlight on Futoshi Ikeda, who led the Japanese women’s national team to a Quarter-final finish at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023, their best since appearing in the final in 2015.

Recipient of the AFC President’s Special Recognition Award in 2018, under Ikeda’s guidance the Nadeshikos’ commendable performance also included a stunning 4-0 triumph over eventual champions Spain in the Group Stage of the global showpiece, while Hinata Miyazawa picked up the Golden Boot Award having scored five goals in the competition.

The Asians who shone at #FIFAWWC

Kuala Lumpur: The curtains came down on the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 on Sunday after the tournament saw a record overall attendance of more than 1.9 million in the stands and Spain crowned the new world champions on the pitch after beating England in the final. 

The tournament was also a landmark event for Asian football as co-hosts Australia won hearts as they battled their way into the semi-finals while former world champions Japan inflicted a stunning 4-0 defeat on eventual winners Spain and both the Philippines and Vietnam debuted.

Sydney: Japan's Hinata Miyazawa claimed the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 Golden Boot award following the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday.

Although Japan were eliminated in the quarter-finals by Sweden, Miyazawa's five goals saw her emerge topscorer.
 
It is a richly deserved award, with the midfielder emerging as one of the success stories of the tournament.

Japan power past Korea Republic to lift title

Pathum Thani: Japan became the first side to have their name engraved on the new AFC U17 Asian Cup™ trophy after defeating 10-man Korea Republic 3-0 in the Thailand 2023 final at the Pathum Thani Stadium on Sunday.

Gaku Nawata scored twice with Yutaka Michiwaki netting the third after Korea Republic had been reduced to 10 men in the 44th minute with Japan adding the title to the three AFC U-16 Championship crowns won previously.
