Xianghe: Top East Asian refereeing instructors have concluded their third day of training on Monday under the FIFA Futuro III programme at the China National Football Training Centre and have undergone various intensive lessons and exercises.
The programme consists of two courses – Referee Technical Instructor Course attended by 19 participants and Referee Fitness Instructor Course with nine participants.
The participants of Technical Instructor Course have taken video quizzes for both men’s and women’s matches, offsides and Laws of the Game, as well as learned the presentation of modules, teaching materials and its revision.
The participants also had practical sessions where they made group presentations, apart from sessions on assessment of referees and amendments to the Laws of the Game 2013/2014 on the field.
The participants of the Referee Fitness Instructor Course, meanwhile, have undergone practical sessions on setting and managing fitness tests, Dynamic Yo-Yo Tests (DYY), Assistant Referee Intermittent Endurance Test (ARIET) and Change of Direction Ability (CODA) Test.
They were also exposed to the expectations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and attended a workshop on heart rate monitoring. Individually designing and presenting their teaching materials was also one of the activities.
One of the trainers delivering the Referee Fitness Instructor Course, Toshio Utsumi (pictured, right) of Japan, had some words of advice for the course participants: “Referee Fitness Instructors need to convince the referees the correct way to train and why they need to have this training.
“Therefore you the Instructors must be prepared when you organise the fitness training, which means that you should continue to study as Referee Fitness Instructors.”
The Fitness Instructors Course and Technical Instructor Course, both overseen by FIFA Senior Manager for Refereeing Development Fernando Tresaco Gracia, will conclude on July 24 and 25 respectively.
