Dubai: The AFC Men Referees & Assistant Referees Course (Group 3) got underway in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, with the four-day event marking the fourth and final course in a series which forms part of the AFC Refereeing Seminar 2015.
The annual seminar is organised to raise the level of quality of match officials throughout Asia and to prepare referees and assistant referees for the forthcoming season.
The AFC Men Referees & Assistant Referees Course (Group 3) features match officials from the Confederation’s West and Central regions.
"This course is organised for AFC referees and assistant referees who will have one of the most important roles in ensuring that forthcoming AFC matches and competitions are run successfully,” remarked AFC Referees Committee consultant General Farouk Bouzo.
The veteran Syrian, a FIFA Order of Merit winner who was Chairman of the AFC Referees Committee for more than two decades, continued:
“In the coming new season you will have to show your abilities, personalities, fairness, refereeing skills, as well as a high level of consistency in applying the laws of the games and its spirit correctly and effectively”.
Welcoming the course participants on behalf of the AFC President (Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa), the AFC General Secretary (Dato’ Alex Sossay), and the Chairman of the Referees Committee (Dato’ Worawi Makudi), General Bouzo also expressed the AFC's gratitude to the UAE Football Association for their assistance and hospitality as well as in providing everything needed for the course.
