Kuala Lumpur: The latest batch of the AFC Project Future Referees development programme started their dream to become the future top referees when they commenced their first training in the Malaysian capital on Saturday.
The six-day First Development Course aims to expose the Batch 2011 referees to various important topics such as the roles of the referees, consistency in applying the Laws of the Game, match control, match analysis and debriefing and more.
“I would like to congratulate you for being chosen to undergo this two-year project Future Referee programme which is the continent’s way of training future Elite Referees. However there is no guarantee that you will pass this course unless you really apply yourself to the programme,” AFC Referees Director Yoshimi Ogawa said while opening the course.
“However I have confidence in you and I hope you will finish this programme. We will give full support to you for your success as AFC is investing a lot in the development of referees and we have top instructors to help you become top referees.
“Some of our Project Future Referees such as Wang Di from China and Qatari Khamis Mohammed Al Marri have become Elite Referees, so I hope you will also become elite, if not in 2014, then perhaps 2015 or 2016.
“If you have confidence in yourself and have good attitude, I’m sure you will be successful in this programme.”
AFC Project Future Referees Manager George Cumming, Ali Al Traifi, Farkhad Abdullaev and Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh are the instructors of the course.
Project Future is the AFC’s development programme for young coaches and referees which was started in 2007 and has been producing high-calibre football proponents who will help the continent drive its game forward.
