Kuala Lumpur: A seminar for referees and assistant referees selected for the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup will kick off in the Malaysian capital on Thursday.
The purpose of the seminar is to prepare the women's officials for duty at the continent’s premier women’s national team competition which will take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from 14 to 25 May.
Eight teams -- hosts Vietnam, Australia, Japan, Jordan, Korea Republic, China, Thailand and Myanmar -- will be the contestants in the tournament.
Various topics will be covered during the seminar including healthy practices in tournaments, player management, analysis of match incidents, positioning, team work and more.
Apart from the theory sessions, a fitness test will be carried out and on-field practical sessions such as fitness training and test matches will be held.
The test matches focus on technical preparation and readiness of the officials where theoretical knowledge is put into practice and team-work is enhanced.
The officials will also use the test-matches to familiarise themselves with the latest in electronic refereeing tools acquired by AFC such as beep flags and referee communication systems.
Krystyna Helena Szokolai (Australia), Mayumi Oiwa (Japan), Ganesan Maniam (Singapore) and John Chia (Singapore) will be the instructors in the seminar.
