ACL2020 - Group B: Late drama seals Al Hilal win over Pakhtakor

Doha: A late Hattan Bahebri strike helped Al Hilal SFC down 10-man Pakhtakor in a lively 2020 AFC Champions League Group B encounter that ended 2-1 at Al Janoub Stadium on Monday.

Both sides were positive from the start as the Uzbek champions and the Saudi Pro League champions set out to gain further ground on Shabab Al Ahli Dubai and Shahr Khodro FC, the former having narrowly beaten the latter in the early Group B game on Monday.

Doha:  Al Ahli Saudi FC became the first team to reach the 2020 AFC Champions League Round of 16 thanks to a late Marko Marin goal that earned them a 1-0 win over Iraq’s Al Shorta on Matchday Three of Group A on Monday.

Following the AFC’s COVID-19 Sub Committee for AFC Champions League West decision to consider Al Wahda withdrawn and their matches ‘null and void’, Al Ahli found themselves going into the Matchday Three fixture in need of just three points to guarantee a top-two spot in the now three-team Group A.

Doha: A beautiful solo goal from youngster Harib Abdallah Suhail was the difference as Shabab Al Ahli Dubai FC managed their first three points in the 2020 AFC Champions League with a win over Islamic Republic of Iran's Shahr Khodro FC in Group B.

With both teams having lost their opening two fixtures, they set out to get their first points of the campaign ahead of their next game against each other three days later.

Persepolis resume their continental duties on a high, having secured their fourth consecutive Iran Pro League title with a 14-point margin.

Al Taawoun, meanwhile, survived a domestic scare, managing to avoid relegation on the final day of the season, having finished third in 2018-19.

Doha: Matchday Three of the 2020 AFC Champions League concludes on Tuesday with Islamic Republic of Iran’s Sepahan FC facing Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr in Group D at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

Sepahan’s fortunes have drastically shifted from Matchday One to Matchday Two, having started the campaign off with a 4-0 defeat of former champions Al Ain FC before succumbing to a 3-0 loss at the hands of Al Sadd SC.

In turn, Al Nassr kicked their 2020 AFC Champions League journey off with a 2-2 draw against Al Sadd, before bagging all three points against Al Ain on Matchday Two with a 2-1 win.
