Shanghai: 2016 AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Shanghai SIPG welcome first-timers Sukhothai FC to Shanghai Stadium on Tuesday, as the Chinese team attempt to reach the Group Stage of Asia’s premier club competition for the second year in a row.
With Andres Villas-Boas installed as head coach and a high profile signing in the shape of ex-Chelsea midfielder Oscar, fans of the Red Eagles will be hoping their team can at least match last year's run to the quarter-finals, where they lost to eventual champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
Sukhothai, meanwhile, will be in high spirits after last week’s thumping 5-0 win over Myanmar's Yadanarbon in the Preliminary Stage 2 phase. Fans of the Thai FA Cup champions saw four different scorers at Thung Thalay Luang Stadium and will be hoping for an upset when the team travel to Shanghai.
