Guangzhou: FC Seoul playmaker Mauricio Molina is hoping to recapture the feeling of winning the AFC Champions League when the K League Classic club takes on Guangzhou Evergrande in the second leg of the final on Saturday evening.
Molina was a key part of Seongnam Ilhwa’s successful squad in the final of the 2010 AFC Champions League in Tokyo and he is hoping he and his team mates can see off Guangzhou’s challenge to allow him to earn his second winners’ medal in four years.
“The feeling of being the champion of the AFC Champions League is great and I want to be the champion again,” said the Colombian.
“The will to be champion always continues and I want it again. Guangzhou are a very good team with a very good coach and I’m sure it will be more difficult to be the champion (than last time), but my desire to be champion grows greater and greater.”
Molina joined FC Seoul the season after winning the AFC Champions League title and since then was part of the club’s K-League winning side in 2012. And he is confident that, despite the strength of Marcello Lippi’s Chinese Super League champions, that FC Seoul can claim their first Asian title.
“We have come here to be champions and we need to win the game to be champion,” he said.
“Guangzhou are a very good team with very good quality coach and we respect all the work they have done to get to the final.
“But we have come here to make new history of FC Seoul and to do that we need to be the champion and to do that we need to win the game tomorrow.”
