Jeddah: Saudi Arabia outfit Al Ahli Saudi FC announced on Monday that they have parted ways with Swiss coach Christian Gross, replacing him with Mazen Bahkali following the team's recent poor performances.
The Jeddah giants issued a statement just hours before their 2020 AFC Champions League Group A match against Islamic Republic of Iran's Esteghlal FC at the Jaber Al-Hamad International Stadium in Kuwait.
Group B - MD2: Pakhtakor (UZB) 3-0 Shahr Khodro FC (IRN)
Tashkent: An Igor Sergeev brace and a late Sherzod Azamov header helped Pakhtakor brush aside Shahr Khodro FC 3-0 to record their second consecutive win in the 2020 AFC Champions League Group A on Monday.
Shahr Khodro came into their second-ever AFC Champions League game dreaming of collecting their first point or scoring their first goal in the group stage, but at the end of the 90 minutes, they would have neither as the home side added another three points to their haul after having opened their campaign with a 2-1 win over Shabab Al Ahli Dubai last week.
Preview MD2 - Group C: Al Taawoun FC (KSA) vs Al Duhail SC (QAT)
Buraidah: The King Abdullah Sport City Stadium in Buraidah hosts AFC Champions League football for the first time in three years as home side Al Taawoun FC welcome Qatari powerhouse Al Duhail SC on Matchday Two of Group C on Tuesday.
The Saudis had the perfect start to their continental campaign with Faisal Darwish’s free-kick earning them a 1-0 victory over Sharjah last week.
Meanwhile, Al Duhail presented their credentials with a solid 2-0 home win against Persepolis FC.
Preview MD2 - Group D: Al Ain FC (UAE) vs Al Nassr (KSA)
Al Ain: Still reeling from their opening day hammering at the hands of Sepahan, UAE’s Al Ain have a fresh challenge at home as they welcome Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr to the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Tuesday.
The 2002-03 AFC Champions League winners were at the receiving end of their heaviest home defeat in the competition, losing 4-0 to Sepahan on Matchday One.
Al Nassr, meanwhile, collected their first point with a 2-2 home draw against Al Sadd last week.
Kuala Lumpur: Quick off the back of a thrilling opening matchday that saw 20 goals scored in eight West Asia fixtures, the 2020 AFC Champions League group stage continues with Matchday Two action on Monday and Tuesday.
With Al Hilal having successfully got their title defence underway in the previous round of fixtures, this week sees AFC Champions League football played across six countries, with Kuwait featuring as an alternative home for Al Ahli Saudi FC.
