Al Ain: Coach Zlatko Dalic admitted that Al Ain’s defeat in the 2016 AFC Champions League final had come as a 'big shock' to all involved at the club after the inaugural winners failed to repeat the feats of the side of 2003 after a 1-1 draw with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on Saturday night saw the Koreans claim the continental club crown with a 3-2 aggregate win.
The 2-1 defeat in the first leg in Korea Republic last week meant that Al Ain would need to come out on the offensive at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium, but it was Han Kyo-won who gave Jeonbuk the lead against the run of play on the half hour mark before Lee Myung-joo levelled the scores four minutes later.
A missed penalty from Brazilian forward Douglas and Dalic’s sending off just moments before the half time whistle was a double blow before the break and it was one from which the hosts could not recover in the second period despite efforts on goal from Douglas, Caio and Ibrahim Diaky.
