Riyadh: Nawaf Al Abid scored the solitary decisive as ACL quarter-finalists Al Hilal edged English Premier League champions Manchester City 1-0 in a friendly match played on Saturday.
The Saudi Arabia international, who had scored the winner in Hilal’s last group stage match against Qatar’s Al Gharafa, notched the winner in the 69th minute. He got enough room to roam around City’s territory and slotted home the fierce shot at the top corner to seal a memorable win over the star-studded English side.
The Saudi giants fielded their strongest side while City also featured world’s top players in the ranks of Carlos Tevez, Yaya Toure and captain Vincent Kompany.
Al Hilal will take on Ulsan Hyundai of Korea Republic in the last eight of this year's edition of the AFC Champions League.
The first-leg of the continent’s premier club competition quarter-finals will take place on September 19 with Ulsan hosting the two-time Asian Club Championship winners before the Saudis entertain the Koreans on October 3 at Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium.
