Ulsan Hyundai made it 11 of 14 AFC Champions League final wins for East Asian sides against West Asian opposition thanks to defensive adaptations and striker Junior Negrao's tenacity.

Persepolis may have suffered heartbreak at the final hurdle for the second time in three years, but there were positives from the match for the Islamic Republic of Iran champions.

Over 8,000 socially distanced fans watched from the stands at Al Janoub Stadium as the Horangi came from behind to defeat Persepolis FC 2-1 in a thrilling final thanks to a brace from Brazilian striker Junior Negrao either side of the half-time break.

Striker Mehdi Abdi Qara capitalised on a mistake from Ulsan Hyundai defender Park Joo-ho to snatch the ball and put Persepolis in front in the 45th minute, but Golmohammadi’s men were caught napping a minute later as Ahmad Noorollahi conceded a penalty which saw Junior Negrao score the rebound after goalkeeper Hamed Lak saved his initial effort from the spot.

Ten minutes into the second half, Persepolis conceded a second penalty with right-back Mehdi Shiri handling a cross from the right to stop it reaching Negrao who was composed from the spot to grab Ulsan Hyundai’s winner.

The Horangi's victory added to the title they won back in 2012 as the Korean side made up for a disappointing end to their K League 1 season, while defeat for Persepolis meant the Iranian team have now been on the losing end in two of the past three Continental finals.
