Al Ain: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Al Ain have secured the services of striker Asamoah Gyan until 2018, after the Ghana international signed a contract extension on Thursday.
Gyan, who had two years left on his original deal, has consistently impressed since his move from Sunderland in 2011, with the 28-year-old helping Al Ain win back-to-back titles and leading the UAE league goalscoring charts for the past three seasons.
“I am very happy to extend my contract here until 2018 and I thank the club’s board, management and all the fans for their support,” Gyan told his official website.
“I have been happy since I arrived in 2011 and I hope to help the side to keep winning,” he added.
Gyan became the leading scorer from an African country in World Cup history when he took his tally to six during the 2014 extravaganza in Brazil, and Al Ain will be hoping his good form continues with both domestic and continental action looming large on the horizon.
Al Ain will continue their quest for a second ACL title when the quarter-finals of this season’s edition of Asia’s premier competition get underway next month.
Zlatko Dalic’s side face Al Ittihad over two legs on August 19 and 26, when Gyan will be looking to add to the ten ACL goals he has already netted this season.
