Riyadh: New recruit Diego Souza netted his first goal for Al Ittihad on Thursday as the AFC Champions League 2012 quarter-finalists recorded a 1-0 away win over Al Nasr.
Diego Souza (Diego de Souza Andrade), who joined Al Ittihad last month following a 16 million Euros move from Brazilian side Vasco de Gama, opened his account one hour into the Saudi Professional League Round 3 meeting at the King Fahd International Stadium, having previously contributed to all three goals in the Tigers SPL Round 2 win over AFC Cup quarter-finalists Ettifaq on his debut for the two-time ACL champions.
The victory saw Al Ittihad go top of the SPL above Al Fateh standings on goal difference but the Jeddah giants will be replaced by Al Shabab if the Riyadh side can defeat 2012 AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Al Ahli and maintain their 100% start to the new Saudi season.
Experienced continental campaigners Al Ittihad will host Guangzhou Evergrande in the first-leg of their ACL quarter-final clash on September 19 before the Tigers travel to China for the return fixture on October 2.
