Miami: Midfielder Segundo Castillo, who plays his club football with AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Al Hilal, has been included in Ecuador's World Cup squad despite suffering a knee injury in La Tri's 3-1 friendly defeat to Mexico.
The 32-year-old was injured when he was tackled by Mexico's Luis Montes, who came off worse in the 50-50 challenge with the Club Leon midfielder sustaining a fractured leg that has ruled him out of the 2014 World Cup.
Castillio on the other hand still has hopes of making the finals for a second time after helping Ecuador reach the Round of 16 in 2006, with team doctors hopeful that he could be back playing in the group stage in Brazil.
"The doctor checked him out and he confirmed he needs three weeks to recover," Fox News quoted Ecuador coach Reinaldo Rueda as saying.
"He'll still be with us and the hope is he will be ready in time."
