Group C: Ahal FC, Shabab Al Ahli Dubai play to a stalemate

Jeddah: Debutants Ahal FC from Turkmenistan secured their first point in a dramatic 1-1 draw against Shabab Al Ahli Dubai in their Group C tie of the AFC Champions League™ 2022 on Thursday.

It was a thrilling encounter with Ahal FC scoring their first AFC Champions League goal through Abdy Bashimov while Uzbekistan’s  Azizjon Ganiev netted from the spot for Shabab Al Ahli Dubai’s equaliser.

Jeddah: IR Iran's Foolad Khouzestan and Al Gharafa of Qatar settled for a 0-0 draw in Group C of the AFC Champions League™ 2022 on Thursday.

Foolad dominated possession for the most the match but a disciplined Al Gharafa backline held on as both teams shared the points.

Group D: Late Medrán goal seals Al Taawoun win over Al Duhail

Buraidah: Al Taawoun FC opened their AFC Champions League™ 2022 Group D campaign with a 2-1 win against Qatar’s Al Duhail SC at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Thursday.

Edmilson Junior handed Al Duhail a seventh minute lead, but Al Taawoun equalised in the 11th minute through Léandre Tawamba, before Álvaro Medrán sealed the win four minutes from time.

Group D: Sepahan fight back to beat Pakhtakor

Buraidah: The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Sepahan FC came back from a 1-0 first half deficit to beat Uzbek Super League champions Pakhtakor FC 3-1 on Matchday One of Group D in the AFC Champions League™ 2022 on Thursday. 

Dragan Ceran gave Pakhtakor the lead in the 28th minute, only for Shahriyar Moghanlou to score back-to-back goals in the second half, coupled with Mohammad Reza Hosseini's effort to secure an opening day win.

For Al Wehdat, the clash against the namesakes of their fierce Amman rivals marks the start of their second AFC Champions League campaign. Last year, they picked up one point from their first four matches, before a late resurgence saw them win the last two, but it was too little too late as they finished third in Group D and exited the competition.
