Group C: Al Ittihad FC (KSA) 3-0 AGMK FC (UZB)

Jeddah: Two-time AFC Champions League™ winners Al Ittihad made a winning return to the competition on Monday as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side cruised to a 3-0 win over Uzbekistan’s AGMK as Brazilian forward Romarinho scored twice in the Group C meeting in Jeddah.

Al Ittihad, the only club to win the back-to-back titles since the AFC Champions League was launched in 2002, are appearing in the Group Stage of the continental championship for the first time since 2015 and secured a statement win against Mirdjalol Qasimov’s side.

Arbil: Iraq’s Air Force Club and Islamic Republic of Iran’s Sepahan FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their opening AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 Group C match at the Franso Hariri Stadium on Monday.

An 89th minute equaliser from Ali Jasim, who had also scored to give Air Force Club an initial lead, meant that the first ever meeting between the two clubs in the AFC Champions League ended in a stalemate.

Amman: A late Zafarmurod Abdurahmatov strike handed FC Nasaf a valuable 1-0 win over Jordan’s Al Faisaly in Group B of the AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 at Amman International Stadium on Monday.

The two sides had faced each other in the AFC Cup 2011 Round of 16, with Nasaf winning 2-1, going on to win the tournament.

Pune: AFC Champions League™ debutants Nassaji Mazandaran made a winning start to their Group D campaign on Monday as goals from Ehsan Hosseini and Mohammadreza Azadi earned Mehdi Rahmati’s side a 2-0 victory over Mumbai City in Pune.

Hosseini’s cool close-range finish put the Iranian side in front in the 34th minute and Azadi made sure the Hazfi Cup holders took all three points back to the Islamic Republic of Iran with a strike from inside the six-yard box in the 62nd minute.

The win gives Jabal Al Mukaber a head start in the race for a stage in the knockout stage, with only the group winners assured of a place in the West Zonal semi-finals.

Muscat: Lebanon’s Al Ahed FC fought back from a goal down to defeat Al Nahda of Oman 2-1 in their AFC Cup™ 2023/2024 Group A fixture at the Seeb Sports Stadium on Monday.

After a tepid first half Billel Bensaha broke the deadlock to give Al Nahda the lead before Al Ahed replied through Khalil Khamis and substitute Karim Darwich to seal the victory.

Basra: Kuwait Premier League side Al Arabi SC got off to a flying start in the AFC Cup™ 2023/24 with a 2-1 win against hosts Al Zawraa SC at the Basra International Stadium on Monday.

Within 10 minutes of play, Maytham Jabbar was forced to use his body to thwart an imminent 1-on-1 chance for Hamza Khabba, who would have gone in on goal had Jabbar not gotten himself in front of the ball to stop him, with the keeper sweeping up.
