Group J: Chiangrai United hold Vissel Kobe

Buriram: Chiangrai United kept their hopes of reaching the AFC Champions League™ 2022 knockout rounds alive after holding firm in the second half to earn their first point of the campaign following a 0-0 draw against Group J leaders Vissel Kobe at the Buriram Stadium on Monday.

The Thai side had the better of the first half with Sivakorn Tiatrakul coming close early on before Vissel came back strongly after the restart but were unable to find a way through as the game ultimately ended goalless.

Vissel remain on top of the standings with seven points from three games and now need just a point from their final group match against Hong Kong’s Kitchee SC on May 1 to qualify for the last 16 as table-toppers.

Group H: Hoang Anh Gia Lai fight back to share spoils with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors

Ho Chi Minh City: Moon Seon-min was on target for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors against Hoang Anh Gia Lai for the second game in a row in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, but Nguyen Van Toan’s second half strike earned the Vietnamese a 1-1 draw in Group H of the AFC Champions League™ 2022.

Moon’s 17th minute header gave Kim Sang-sik’s side the lead three days after he scored an injury time winner against HAGL, although this time Kiatisuk Senamuang’s team came away with a point thanks to Van Toan’s 62nd minute equaliser.
 
The draw leaves Jeonbuk a point adrift of group leaders Yokohama F Marinos, who went into pole position with a 3-0 win over Sydney FC earlier in the day. F Marinos have nine points, one more than Jeonbuk while HAGL are level on two points with Sydney.

Group H: Clinical Yokohama cruise past Sydney FC

Ho Chi Minh City: Two goals in the opening 11 minutes took 10-man Yokohama F Marinos to a 3-0 win over Sydney FC in Ho Chi Minh City on Monday as the Japanese side enhanced their hopes of advancing to the knockout rounds from Group H of the AFC Champions League™ 2022.

Yuki Saneto and Takuma Nishimura gave Kevin Muscat’s side an early two-goal lead before Ryotaro Tsunoda’s second half sending off threatened to hand Sydney FC a lifeline, but the Japanese side completed their third win of the campaign when Anderson Lopes added a late third.
 
That result takes F Marinos onto nine points from four games while also further hampers Sydney hopes of a place in the knockout rounds with two matches remaining, with the Australians stranded on two points.

Pathum Thani: Melbourne City FC head coach Patrick Kisnboro called on his side to learn the harsh lessons delivered by their drama-filled 1-1 AFC Champions League™ 2022 draw against Jeonnam Dragons on Sunday.

For the second time in four days the Australian club struggled to break down their disciplined Korean opponents but looked like they’d done enough to secure three precious points when Jamie Maclaren put them ahead with a minute remaining, only for Jeonnam forward Nika Kacharava to lob home a dramatic equaliser in the third minute of stoppage time.

Pathum Thani: In-form striker Ikhsan Fandi revealed his slight regret at missing out on what would have been a historic hat-trick in BG Pathum United’s 3-1 AFC Champions League™ 2022 win over United City FC on Sunday.

The 22-year-old striker earned Player of the Match honours for his two-goal performance, which sent the Thai League outfit two points clear on top of Group G, with a win against Melbourne City on Wednesday now enough to guarantee their place in the Round of 16.
 
It was an impressive showing from Ikhsan, who showed the power and lethal finishing that has seen him score 11 goals for club and country since the start of March, but he couldn’t help but find himself wanting more after netting his goals before half-time.
