Group J: Kitchee survive Chiangrai challenge

Buriram: A five-goal thriller saw Kitchee SC stay on track for a place in the Round of 16 after Chiangrai United were defeated 3-2 at a saturated Buriram Stadium on Thursday.

Phitiwat Sukjitthammakul’s penalty on the stroke of half-time put Chiangrai in front, before goals from substitute Alex Akande on 55 minutes and Dejan Damjanovic on 70 minutes put Kitchee in front, only to see Sarawut Inpaen restore parity on 79 minutes.

Kitchee would be the ones celebrating at the end, however, as defender Law Tsz-Chun’s close range finish inside the final 10 minutes saw the Hong Kong side claim all three points and eliminate Chiangrai.

Group H: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors fight back against Sydney to stay in the hunt

Ho Chi Minh: Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors fought back from a goal down to defeat Sydney FC 3-2 on Thursday, setting up an enticing winner-takes-all clash with Yokohama F. Marinos in Group H of the AFC Champions League™ 2022.

Han Kyo-won, Stanislav Iljutcenko and Gustavo all scored in a dominant show in the second 45 minutes to give Jeonbuk the three points after Adam Le Fondre had put Steve Corica’s side ahead in the 40th minute. Patrick Wood hit an injury time consolation for Sydney FC.

The win ensures Jeonbuk remain only a point behind F Marinos ahead of the teams’ showdown at the Thong Nhat Stadium on Sunday, when a place in the Round of 16 will be at stake.

Ho Chi Minh City: Marcos Junior’s penalty and a header from Shinnosuke Hatanaka ensured Yokohama F Marinos go into the final round of Group H matches in the AFC Champions League™ 2022 in pole position as Kevin Muscat’s side handed Hoang Anh Gia Lai a 2-0 defeat on Thursday.

The Brazilian striker sent HAGL goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh the wrong way with his 36th minute spot-kick and Hatanaka put the result beyond doubt eight minutes from time as F Marinos moved onto 12 points from five games with one round of matches remaining.
 
The margin of victory was well deserved for the Japanese side, who dominated throughout at Hoh Chi Minh City’s Thong Nhat Stadium against Kiatisuk Senamuang’s already-eliminated team.
