Guangzhou: AFC Champions League quarter-finalists Guangzhou Evergrande are preparing for their last eight encounter against Saudi giants Al Ittihad by adding quality players in their squad.
Marcello Lippi’s side added more firepower by signing Chinese international Huang Bowen from 2006 ACL champions Jeonbuk Motors. The 24-year old attacking midfielder is the third mid-season addition by the big spending Chinese side who signed Lucas Barrios from Borussia Dortmund and Korean international Kim Yong-gwon earlier.
With ACL registration for the quarter-finals open till August 11, all these three additions are expected to feature in Evergrande’s September 19 quarter-final tie against Al Ittihad at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in Jeddah.
Bowen, who was transferred to Jeonbuk in 2011 from Beijing Guoan, was the CFA Young Player of the Year in 2008. The second leg against the two-time Asian champions Al Ittihad is scheduled for October 2 at the Guangzhou Tianhe Stadium as Guangzhou will be looking to book a berth in the semi-final in their continental debut.
