Buraidah: Al Ittihad failed to make ground on the leading pack in the 2011/12 Saudi Arabia Premier League as the two-time AFC Champions League winners lost 2-1 to Al Taawoun on Saturday.
After a goalless first-half at the Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Stadium, Hossain Al Nagai put the home side 2-0 up with goals in the 48th and 55th minutes and although Wendel was able to pull one back from the penalty spot with ten minutes remaining Al Ittihad couldn't get back into the game and went down to their fourth defeat in 13 league games.
Al Ittihad begin their quest for a third ACL title when the Jeddah giants entertain Pakhtakor in their Group B opener on March 6.
