Seoul: Recently crowned AFC Champions League winners Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors have acquired Ulsan Hyundai defenders Lee Yong and Lee Jae-sung in exchange for three players to bolster their title defence next year.
Jeonbuk swapped out right-back Kim Chang-soo, centre-back Choi Kyu-baek and forward Lee Jong-ho to bring in the Ulsan duo.
“We showed good performances in attack this year, but we felt that our defence should be reinforced,” Jeonbuk said in a release. “Ulsan wanted a solid striker and that is why this trade deal was completed.”
Lee Jong-ho, who only joined Jeonbuk this year, scored five goals in 22 matches, and previously had 12 goals in 31 matches when he was with Jeonnam Dragons in 2015. He scored his final goal with Jeonbuk against CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns to seal fifth place in the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2016.
Veteran right-back Lee Yong, 29, who represented Korea Republic at the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014, and 28-year-old Lee Jae-Sung, who played in 172 K League Classic matches, will join Jeonbuk in January next year as the Jeonju-based side get ready to defend their AFC Champions League title against Australia's Adelaide United, Jiangsu FC from China and a yet to be decided Play-off winner in Group H.
