Beijing: Guangzhou Evergrande goal-machine Muriqui was recently the named the 2011 Chinese Super League Player of the Year.
Muriqui (Luiz Guilherme da Conceição Silva) was also the season's top scorer with 16 goals as big-spending Guangzhou won the CSL title in their first season back in the top flight following their promotion as 2010 China League One champions.
"I couldn't believe it when I found out I had won. It was really a marvellous campaign,"goal.com quoted the Brazilian as saying.
"I am really happy that my work has been recognized especially because this year the competition boasted renowned foreigners such as Dario Conca and Obina. This enhances my achievements even further."
Guangzhou have been grouped with 2011 AFC Champions League runners-up Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, history-making J.League champions Kashiwa Reysol and the yet-to-be-confirmed winners of the Thailand premier League in Group H of next year's edition of Asia's premier club competition.
