Doha: Pakhtakor FC returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Shahr Khodro on Matchday Six of the 2020 AFC Champions League Group B on Wednesday.
Under the guidance of assistant coach Pieter Huistra, the Uzbek champions secured their first win since Matchday Two thanks to a second-half Jaloliddin Masharipov strike to progress as group leaders ahead of Shabab Al Ahli Dubai FC.
Pakhtakor play Islamic Republic of Iran's Esteghlal FC in the Round of 16 on Saturday, in what will be their first AFC Champions League knockout stage appearance in a decade.

Doha: Captain Omar Al Soma said Al Ahli Saudi FC must quickly forget Wednesday's 3-0 defeat to Esteghlal FC in the 2020 AFC Champions League and focus on the Round of 16.
The Jeddah giants went into the match with their place in the knockout stage already secured but were undone by goals from Mehdi Ghaedi, Ali Karimi and Cheick Diabaté as the Islamic Republic of Iran club joined them in advancing from Group A.
Despite the defeat, the Saudi Arabia Pro League side finished top of Group A and will play Group B runners-up Shabab Al Ahli Dubai while Esteghlal will face Uzbekistan's Pakhtakor.
Pakhtakor defeat Shahr Khodro to move into AFC Champions League knockout stage on a high
Doha: Pakhtakor FC sealed top spot in Group B of the 2020 AFC Champions League after defeating Shahr Khodro FC 1-0 on Matchday Six of the competition on Wednesday.
Pakhtakor’s qualification to the Round of 16 was confirmed after Al Hilal were deemed to have withdrawn from the competition after failing to name the required 13 players for their match against Shabab Al Ahli.
The decision meant all matches played by Al Hilal are considered null and void according to Article 6 of the AFC Champions League regulations and therefore Pakhtakor and Shabab Al Ahli Dubai have progressed to the Round of 16 from Group B.
Esteghlal cruise past Al Ahli Saudi to seal AFC Champions League knockout stage berth
Doha: Esteghlal cruised into the 2020 AFC Champions League Round of 16 with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Group A leaders Al Ahli Saudi FC in Matchday Six on Wednesday.
Head coach Majid Namjoo-Motlagh’s men went into the game with the knowledge that only a two-goal margin win would secure their place in the Round of 16 alongside Al Ahli and ahead of Al Shorta and from the start they made their intentions clear.
Carteron calls for strong Al Taawoun reaction against Al Duhail
in AFC Champions League decider
Doha: Al Duhail SC and Al Taawoun FC lock horns on Matchday Six of the 2020 AFC Champions League with knockout stage places up for grabs for all four Group C teams on Wednesday.
One point will be enough for Al Duhail to reach the Round of 16, while Al Taawoun’s fate is out of their hands, as they would require the three points in addition to a draw in the other Wednesday game between Sharjah and Persepolis.
After a bright start to the competition with back-to-back wins, Al Taawoun have been off-form since the restart, losing all three subsequent matches. The arrival of French coach Patrice Carteron ahead of Matchday Five did not change things as they suffered a 6-0 defeat to Sharjah.
Rampant Sharjah urged to avoid complacency in AFC Champions League tie against Persepolis
Doha: One of the two Round-of-16 tickets from the 2020 AFC Champions League Group C is set to be decided in the Matchday Six direct clash between Sharjah and Perseplis at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Thursday.
Both teams have seven points going into their last game of the group stage, where a win for either team means a place at the next stage.
A superior goal-difference means a draw would favour Sharjah, but it could also mean elimination for both sides should Al Taawoun defeat Al Duhail in the other Thursday game.
Sharjah have been in red hot form, scoring 10 goals in their last two games to brush aside Al Duhail 4-2 and Al Taawoun 6-0, but coach Abdulaziz Al Anbari is adamant his side should not get carried away with those results ahead of the decisive Persepolis match.
