Abdi Qara's 42nd minute header drew the Islamic Republic of Iran champions level against Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr, with the Tehran-based side going on to win the penalty shootout 5-3 to make their second AFC Champions League final in three years.

Abdi Qara garnered 31.61 percent of the votes with the second of his goals - against eventual champions Ulsan Hyundai FC in the final - finishing third in the poll with 17.26 percent. Al Nassr's Abdulrahman Al Obaid finished second, with his Matchday One goal against Qatar's Al Sadd receiving 22.48 percent of the votes.

The Red Knights experienced a dip in results and performance this season, prompting the club’s management to appoint Sabri Lamouchi as head coach back in October. The Frenchman of Tunisian decent has been working hard to get the club back on track since then.

FIFA.com spoke with Lamouchi, who expressed his excitement about the forthcoming global showpiece. "It’s a great opportunity, even if I wasn’t at the helm of the team that won the league title," he said. "Credit goes to the coach who was here before me.
