Preview - Group E: Persepolis out to maintain perfect AFC Champions League start against Al Rayyan

Goa: Islamic Republic of Iran’s Persepolis FC will be looking to extend their winning start to their 2021 AFC Champions League campaign when they face Al Rayyan of Qatar in Group E on Saturday.

The 2019 AFC Champions League runners-up defeated UAE’s Al Wahda 1-0 on Wednesday, while the other Matchday One tie saw Al Rayyan held to a goalless draw by India’s FC Goa.

Riyadh: Head coach Mirdjalal Kasimov hailed his AGMK FC players after the Uzbekistan side battled to a 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal SFC in their AFC Champions League group stage debut on Thursday.

Going into the Group A tie as outsiders, AGMK came within a whisker of defeating the 2019 AFC Champions League winners, with Zafar Polvonov giving them an 11th minute lead.

An own goal by Sardor Rakhmanov (27th) and Luciano Vietto's 36th minute strike meant Al Hilal took the lead going into the break but Sanjar Shaakhmedov scored in the 70th to ensure AGMK ended the night with their first AFC Champions League point.

Jeddah: Head coach Sabri Lamouchi said it was hugely important for Al Duhail SC to open their 2021 AFC Champions League Group C campaign with a win.

Goals from Michael Olunga and Edmilson Junior steered the Qataris to a perfect start against Iraq’s Al Shorta at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Thursday, with Lamouchi's only regret being the margin of victory which he felt should have been higher.
