Riyadh: Coach Laurentiu Reghecampf began his Al Hilal career with a resounding win as the AFC Champions League 2014 quarter-finalists thumped Al Orubah 4-1 in their opening Saudi Pro League match on Friday.
The game was Reghecampf’s first official match in charge of the Saudi giants after they appointed him in May 2014. Hilal had qualified for the ACL quarter-finals and finished the season strongly by finishing second under the club's Technical Director and legendary player Sami Al Jaber.
Salman Al Faraj broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, before Thiago Neves notched his first goal of the night five minutes later.
The visitors pegged one back in the 70th minute courtesy of Mashari Al Anazi, but local lad Nasser Al Shamrani extended the lead to 3-1, before Neves wrapped up a comfortable victory for the home side with his second of the night one minute from time.
Al Hilal's win in their first competitive match of the season will provide a welcome boost ahead of their ACL quarter-final cash with Al Sadd, the first leg of which they will host on August 19 before traveling to Doha a week later for the return fixture
