Seoul: FC Seoul coach Choi Yong-soo is determined his side will become the fifth Korean club to etch their name on the coveted AFC Champions League trophy with a quarter-final tie against last year’s runners-up Al Ahli being the first obstacle standing between them and continental glory.
“We will not only prepare well to win this match over the 180 minutes as we are motivated to win the ACL title,” Choi (pictured) told afc.com following Thursday’s AFC Champions League 2013 Knockout Stage draw.
“Al Ahli is a very strong team but I also think all eight teams taking part in the ACL quarter-finals are equally strong so there are no major differences in who we play,” continued the 39-year-old, who made four appearances and scored twice for Japanese side Jubilo Iwata in the 2005 AFC Champions League.
Choi was also assistant coach when FC Seoul faced Saudi opposition at the quarter-final stage of the 2011 ACL and the former Korea Republic international forward will be hoping for a better outcome this time around having lost 3-2 on aggregate to two-time champions Al Ittihad.
Al Ahli host the first leg of the 2013 ACL quarter-final clash on August 21 before the Jeddah giants travel to Korea for the return fixture on September 18 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, where Choi’s side have scored 12 times in their four matches at home during their latest continental campaign.
