Doha: Brazilian striker Diego Tardelli has joined AFC Champions League 2012 Group D side Al Gharafa on a two-and-a-half year contract from Russian Premier League outfit Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Brazilian confirmed the deal via his personal Twitter account earlier in the week and heads to Qatar hoping for a fresh start after failing to settle at the Dagestan-based club where he failed to score in the appearances he made after joining Anzhi from Atletico Mineiro in March.
Tardelli has five international caps for Brazil with the 26-year-old striker receiving his first call-up for the Selecao in July 2009 from then head coach Dunga and has had loan spells with clubs in Spain (Real Betis) and Holland (PSV Eindhoven).
Tardelli joins fellow Brazilians Ze Roberto and Edmilson at Al Gharafa, who will open their seventh ACL campaign on March 7 against either Neftchi of Uzbekistan or Al Shabab of the UAE depending on the outcome of the final round of 2012 AFC Champions League playoffs on February 18.
