Doha: Mohanad Abdulraheem bagged a brace as Al Zawraa of Iraq claimed a 2-0 victory over Syria's Al Jaish at Al Khor SC Stadium on Tuesday to move top of Group A in the 2017 AFC Cup.
After a goalless first-half, Al Zawraa broke the deadlock on 48 minutes when Abdulraheem headed home Nadim Sabag's angled ball into the box for his third goal in two games against Al Jaish.
Alaa Mhawi then doubled his side's advantage midway through the half by driving low and hard from 18 yards, before Abdulraheem headed in Hussein Ali's centre in the last minute as Al Zawraa completed back-to-back wins over Al Jaish following their 3-1 victory three weeks ago.
The result saw the Iraqi side move into pole position in Group A, two points ahead of their Syrian opponents and three in front of Jordan's Al Ahli, who defeated Oman's Al Suwaiq 2-1 earlier on Tuesday.
