Kuwait City: Mohammad Ebrahim declared himself satisfied after seeing his Qadsia SC side fight back from going a goal down to pick up a point with a 1-1 draw against Al Wahda on Friday evening that ensures they remain in top spot in Group C of the 2014 AFC Cup.
Al Wahda took the lead through Maher Al Said in the 27th minute but, with six minutes remaining in the first half, Omar Al Suma struck to level the scores and ensure both teams took a point from the encounter.
“I’m satisfied with the performance and happy with the team as we are currently battling on several fronts,” said Ebrahim. “The players were tired due to the heavy schedule that we have and yet they had a good performance.
“Despite the result, we are still at the top of the group and that is the most important thing for us at the moment. We have two remaining matches and we will try our best to finish on top of the group.”
There was little between the teams in the opening exchanges until Brahima Keita was brought down in the penalty area by Mohammad Bash Bayouk and Al Said gave Al Wahda the lead from the spot, his strike sending Nawaf Al Khaldi the wrong way as it went into the bottom left corner.
But just 12 minutes later the teams were level again when, thanks to another penalty, Qadsia scored through Al Suma, who beat Mahmoud Karkar with his effort after Raslan Al Kurdi had fouled Mesaed Nada in the area.
Qadsia looked the more likely to take all three points with the more assured performance in the second half, but in the end the two teams had to settle for a draw that moves Qadsia on to eight points while Al Wahda picked up their first point of the campaign just three days after losing against the same opposition.
“We showed a good performance today as the players learnt from the first match, which we lost couple of days ago,” said Al Wahda coach Raafat Mohammad. “We created several chances to score and we were close to getting the three points but we were not lucky.
“The players followed our instructions and they had a good team effort tonight. The point that we got is still good and hopefully we can continue having good performances and positive results in the next matches.”
