Amman: Ahmed Hayel missed a penalty but amended the mistake with a goal as AFC Cup participants Jordan giants Al Faisaly came from a goal behind to inflict a 2-1 defeat over Al Jazeera in the Jordan League on Thursday.
Hayel spurned a spot kick awarded to the leaders in the 47th minute after Ayman Abu Fares gave hosts Al Jazeera a precious lead in the 28th minute. Hayel soon amended his early mistake by firing the equaliser five minutes after missing the penalty. Khalil Zyed Attia scored an important decisive goal in the 76th minute as leaders opened up a five-point lead over second placed Ramtha SC.
Al Faisaly are on 44 points from 19 matches with Ramtha SC are five points behind the Jordan champions with a match in hand. Al Jazeera is in fifth position with 26 points from 19 matches.
Al Faisaly are unbeaten in two previous matches of the AFC Cup but have failed to score more than a goal. They will try to turn their lackluster performance in front of goal when they meet Al Qadsia of Kuwait on Tuesday in Group A action of AFC Cup at Mohammed Al Hamad Stadium in Kuwait.
