Singapore: Home United progressed to the ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals of the 2017 AFC Cup as Group H winners on Tuesday, courtesy of a 4-1 victory over Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC.
Afiq Yunos (pictured right) gave the Singaporean side the lead with a header from a corner in the 12th minute, before Faris Ramli doubled their advantage with a coolly-taken penalty four minutes later.
Irfan Fandi (pictured left) made it 3-0 in the 26th minute, converting from close range after Yunos had knocked another corner back into the danger zone, but Si Thu Aung pulled one back for Yadanarbon in the third minute of first half stoppage time after both sides had been reduced to 10 men - Yan Paing being sent off for Yadanarbon before Home’s Sirina Camara was dismissed soon after.
The second-half saw the home side maintain control of the game for the most part before substitute Adam Swandi added gloss to the scoreline to make it 4-1 in the 72nd minute, although there was another late red card as Ye Ko Oo also received his marching orders for Yadanarbon.
The win moved Home onto nine points at the summit of Group H, guaranteeing them a spot in the Zonal Semi-finals, while Yadanarbon still have an outside chance of joining them there as the best runner-up if they can win their final match against Than Quang Ninh of Vietnam.
