Kuwait City: AFC Cup quarter-finalists Kuwait SC have signed Brazilian winger Rafael Bastos from Bulgarian club Levski Sofia on a one-year deal.
Bastos started his career with Brazilian top flight club Bahia in 2006 and has been since a well-travelled player plying his trade with several clubs in Brazil and in European countries, namely Portugal, Bulgaria and Romania.
In Romania, he played for Cluj and scored twice against his former Portuguese club Braga in the 2012 UEFA Champions League group stages.
The 29-year-old is also not new to Asia as he has worked with J.League second division outfit Consadole Sapporo in 2009 and also Al Nassr whom he helped clinch this year's Saudi Professional League title and in the process making his greatest showing in his personal career by scoring 11 goals in 20 appearances.
Kuwait SC, the only team to have won three AFC Cup titles, began their AFC Cup 2014 campaign by topping their group after winning four of their six games and advanced to the Round of 16 where they emphatically downed Bahraini club Al Hidd to punch their ticket to the quarter-finals.
They will host Indonesian champions Persipura Jayapura in the quarter-finals on August 18 before their second-leg match a week later at Mandala Stadium, Indonesia.
