Andijan: Days after sealing a place in the AFC Cup 2012 knockout stages, Neftchi succumbed to an uninspiring 1-0 defeat at the hands of struggling Andijan on Sunday in the Uzbek Pro League.
Neftchi have won only one match so far in the domestic campaign as they are reeling at the 12th position of the 14-team league. However, due to the clashes of competitions, their two big matches against Pakhtakor and leaders Nasaf were postponed as wins in both those matches will bring their season back on track.
As it appeared that the teams were sharing points at the Stadium Soglom Avlod, Farkhod Tokhirov scored the decisive goal one minute from time to offer all three points for the rock-bottom side who managed their first win of the campaign.
Neftchi will face India’s Salgaocar in the last match of the AFC Cup 2012 group stages next Tuesday. With Salgaocar already out and Neftchi a confirmed second-placed Group D team, Neftchi will try to do fine tune the squad in the academic contest to replicate their continental form in the domestic matches.
