Terengganu: Kelantan made a disappointing start to their Malaysia Cup campaign on Wednesday when the AFC Cup 2012 quarter-finalists were defeated 2-0 by East Coast rivals Terengganu.
Terengganu, who lost 3-2 to Kelantan to exit this year's AFC Cup at the Round of 16, took a third minute lead in their 2012 Malaysia Cup Group B opener at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium through Liberian striker Francis Doe.
Kelantan's hopes of getting back into the match at the same venue where they let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 in a Malaysian Super League clash back in June were delivered a massive blow midway through the second half when defender Daudsu Jamaluddin was sent off after picking up his second yellow card.
The ten men of Kelantan held out until stoppage-time when Ismail Faruqi sealed the home team's victory.
Kelantan take on Iraq outfit Arbil in the quarter-finals of the 2012 AFC Cup with last year's semi-finalists hosting the first-leg on September 18 before the action shifts to Malaysia for the return fixture a week later.
