Ramtha: Lebanon striker Mohammed Qassas scored a brace as Al Ramtha emerged 3-1 winners over fellow AFC Cup playing Al Faisaly in the Jordan League on Wednesday.
In the highly charged match played at the Prince Hashim Stadium, Ivory Coast striker Amanjua converted a penalty to put Al Ramtha 1-0 ahead in the 41st minute.
Qassas had a good spell in the second half as he found the net in the 46th minute to put Ramtha 2-0 up followed by his second of the match in the 58th minute to make it 3-0 in favour of the Jordan League runners-up.
The Amman-based two-time AFC Cup champions Faisaly pulled one goal back in the 78th minute through Khader Abu Hamad but the damage done earlier doomed them to the fifth defeat of the season.
Defending Jordan League champions Al Faisaly are a massive 10 points behind leaders Shabab Al Ordon who have netted 27 points so far while Al Ramtha leapfrogged Al Faisaly to the fourth place having 18 points from 12 matches.
Debutants Al Ramtha are in Group D where they face fellow first-timers FC Ravshan from Tajikistan along with Syria’s Al Shorta and Al Qadsia of Kuwait. AFC Cup regulars Faisaly take on Iraq’s Duhok, Al Shab Ibb of Yemen and Dhofar Club of Oman in Group C.
