Stage set for #AFCU17 and #AFCU20 Qualifiers draws

Kuala Lumpur: Asia’s age-group national teams will embark on their quest to reach the AFC U17 Asian Cup™ 2025 and AFC U20 Asian Cup™ 2025 later this year when the Qualifiers for both kick off in October and September respectively.

Their pathways will be laid out at the official draw ceremonies on Thursday, June 13 at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the U17 event to begin at 2pm, followed by the U20 draw at 4pm.

Japan power past Korea Republic to lift title

Pathum Thani: Japan became the first side to have their name engraved on the new AFC U17 Asian Cup™ trophy after defeating 10-man Korea Republic 3-0 in the Thailand 2023 final at the Pathum Thani Stadium on Sunday.

Gaku Nawata scored twice with Yutaka Michiwaki netting the third after Korea Republic had been reduced to 10 men in the 44th minute with Japan adding the title to the three AFC U-16 Championship crowns won previously.

Uzbekistan edge Iraq to lift title

Tashkent: Umarali Rakhmonaliev’s second half penalty earned hosts Uzbekistan a 1-0 victory over Iraq and the AFC U20 Asian Cup™ Uzbekistan 2023 title at a sold-out Bunyodkor Stadium on Saturday.

Captain Rakhmonaliev stroked his 72nd minute spot-kick down the middle as Iraqi goalkeeper Hussein Hasan dived to his right after Abbosbek Fayzullaev had been upended in the box to earn Uzbekistan their first-ever title at this level.
 
The win means Uzbekistan join Japan, Korea Republic, Saudi Arabia and Iraq as the only nations to have won the Asian title at the U17, U20 and U23 levels and Ravshan Khaydarov’s side will go to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia in May as the continental champions.
