Group C: Thailand 0-3 Korea Republic

Bangkok: Korea Republic moved a step closer to booking their spot in the third phase of the preliminaries of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and at the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 as Lee Jae-sung, Son Heung-min and Park Jin-seop scored in a 3-0 win over Thailand on Tuesday.

The victory at Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium moves the Koreans, under interim coach Hwang Sun-hong, onto 10 points from four games and means a draw in their meeting with hosts Singapore on June 6 will seal their progress from Group C.
 
The result leaves Thailand in third place in the standings, three points behind China PR following their 4-1 win over Singapore earlier in the day with the two nations due to meet on Matchday Five.

Seoul: Thailand head coach Masatada Ishii credited his players' confidence after they held  Korea Republic to a 1-1 draw in Group C of the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Thursday.

Son Heung-min put Korea Republic in front going into the break before a resurgent Thailand levelled the tie through substitute Suphanat Mueanta.

Seoul: Suphanat Mueanta’s second-half equaliser helped Thailand claim a memorable 1-1 draw against Korea Republic in Group C of the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Thursday.

Son Heung-min put the hosts in front four minutes before the interval at Seoul World Cup Stadium but substitute Suphanat levelled proceedings shortly after the hour with the goal that ultimately secured a famous result for the Southeast Asians.

Buriram: Guilherme Bissoli was on target four times as defending champions Buriram United extended their lead in Thailand to three points after a 6-2 win against Police Tero on Sunday while Bangkok United slipped to third after their second consecutive draw – this time against BG Pathum United. 

Central Coast Mariners and Melbourne Victory faced off on Sunday intending to close in on leaders Wellington Phoenix in Australia and it was Mariners who came out on top to cut the gap to three points.

Marinos’ perseverance delights Kewell

Yokohama: Head coach Harry Kewell was delighted with Yokohama F Marinos’ never-say-die attitude after the Japanese side came out tops in the second leg of their AFC Champions League™ 2023/24 Round of 16 tie against Thailand’s Bangkok United on Wednesday. 

Tied 2-2 after the first leg, Marinos dominated possession but found Bangkok hard to break but just when it seemed that a penalty shootout would be needed to decide the winners,  Wisarut Imura handled the ball in the final seconds of extra-time, with Anderson Lopes slotting home from 12 yards.
