ASEAN Wrap: Sydney and Auckland advance as champions celebrate across the region

Kuala Lumpur: Sydney FC survived a dramatic penalty shootout against Newcastle Jets to book their place in the A-League grand final alongside Auckland FC, while Vietnam’s Cong An Ha Noi celebrated the V.League 1 title with victory over Thanh Hoa.

Persib Bandung moved to the brink of the Indonesia Super League crown after a dramatic late win, while Johor Darul Ta’zim’s dominance in Malaysia continued as Kuching City strengthened their grip on second place.
 
Singapore’s Lion City Sailors suffered defeat despite already being crowned champions, while Cambodia’s Svay Rieng were also beaten after sealing the title.

Kuala Lumpur: Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Kuwait SC for capturing the AFC Challenge League 2025/26™ title after the West Asians overturned the deficit twice to defeat Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC 4-3 in front of 44,000 roaring fans at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Ardiya, Kuwait on Wednesday.

Building on their proud legacy, Kuwait SC’s triumph marks a historic return to the pinnacle of the Continental podium for an impressive fourth time, adding the prestigious AFC Challenge League™ trophy to their illustrious haul of three AFC Cup™ crowns from 2009, 2012, and 2013.

Ardhiyah: Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC were left to once again endure heartbreak after a dramatic extra-time defeat to Kuwait SC in the AFC Challenge League 2025/26™ final on Wednesday.

The Cambodian side, who also fell at the same stage last year, twice led the pulsating contest at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium but couldn’t hold on as Kuwait SC lifted the trophy with a 4-3 win. 

Head coach McConkey admitted that his team had opportunities to close out the game and were punished for not doing so.

Kuwait SC lift title with stunning fightback

Ardhiyah: Kuwait SC came from behind twice to defeat Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC 4-3 in the AFC Challenge League 2025/26™ final at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium on Wednesday.

Trailing 2-0 and 3-2, Kuwait SC roared before almost 44,000 fans to turn the tie around in extra time to lift the trophy, their fourth on the continental stage.

It was heartbreak for Cambodia's Svay Rieng as they finished runners-up for the second successive year but can walk tall after giving their best.

The Northern Ireland tactician, while admitting he was not satisfied with his team’s overall performance, applauded their effectiveness in front of goal as a Saret Kyra header and a brace from Kwame Peprah sealed a 3-0 win on the day and 4-1 on aggregate against Manila Digger of the Philippines.
